Mérida Amor

Mexico is the ideal Winter escape. A recent trip to the Yucatán’s capital city, Mérida, provided warmth and design inspiration. The Mayan, Spanish and French influence was evident in the architecture. Bright vibrant colors and beautifully weathered walls are plentiful. In fact, cactus juice is a common ingredient in their wall stucco to add texture.

There are also significant agave species in this region that the Mayans call Henequen, also known as (Agave fourcroydes & Agave sisalana). The Henequen plant fiber was the soul of their economy and made them a leader in the textile industry until synthetic fibers took over in the mid-20th Century.
